From 25 July to 1 August 2009, our Overseas Projects Department (OPD) team headed off to Cambodia to visit our partner NGOs, as well as to explore potential project implementation. The team visited Cambodian Children’s Advocacy Foundation (CCAF) in Kampot province and knew more about their livelihood and pre-school projects. The team learnt more about the operation of pre-schools in rural areas of Kampot and about how livelihood projects, such as helping the villagers to build chicken farm and cement well for clean water, would improve the living of villagers which in turn could encourage schooling and education in the community. The team also visited the school in Hope for Slum project in Battambang, and met with Village Focus Cambodia (VFC) staff to know more about the current operation of Hope for Slum project. Beneficiaries and drop-out students were also interviewed for assessing the efficacy of the project. A mini-library was also launched by the OPD team to promote self-learning in the school.
Humanity in Focus (HIF) is collaborating with the HK Outstanding Tertiary Students’ Services Association (HKOTSSA) and the Shower Talent Exclude Prejudice (STEP), which was a group of Hong Kong volunteers with architectural profession, to start a new interior design project in Cambodian pre-schools. Our OPD team conducted site visit with representatives from the collaborators to identify the site and scope of the deign project; consolidate the proposed services and connections with the local NGOs. More details of this project will be announced soon.
